Friday night, Mark and I went over to our DP Marq's office in El Segundo, to set up for next day shoot. Marq is a God sent. Not only is he an excellent DP that comes with his own equipment (camera, lights, sound), he's also coming with a camera operator and a make-up artist. On top of that, he owns an ad and graphic design agency, which we turned into the headquarters of Gotcha Magazine! It's almost midnight when we leave El Segundo. I'm leaving my car there so Mark can have it during the shoot, while we are using his car for the film.
Saturday, August 25th. After dropping off Mark in El Segundo, I head for Marina del Rey again. My two actors, Staas and Roston, are there before their call-time, and the crew joins us a few minutes later. We set up for the first shot at exactly 8:30A and are pretty much ready 2 hours later. Amazing! That's when I get the idea of just shooting the car scene today instead of shooting it the next day like it was schedule. We are way ahead of time and by adding this scene today, we will be able to wrap the two actors! Shooting that scene turns out to take a little longer, but never the less, it's in the can a day earlier.
My good friend Nancy arrives around lunch and becomes my excellent first-time script supervisor. After lunch, we shoot all the Gotcha office scenes. It goes very fast and super, super smooth. It's amazing how organized this shoot is. Having a whole team with people who all have a specific task makes making a movie so much easier. Mark still runs around, helping where he can, but this time, he actually gets help. Having an AD like Daniel is also a dream come true, making sure we are on schedule and making sure everything moves along. I don't think I'll ever work without an AD, no matter how small the shoot is. A must have!!!!
We wrap for the day around 8PM. I'm not tired at all. On the contrary, I'm full of energy. One more major shot to go for tomorrow: the ext. car scene from scene 2. I can't wait ....
